{"id":18986,"date":"2022-08-08T20:26:23","date_gmt":"2022-08-08T20:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wrigleyclaydon.com\/?p=18986"},"modified":"2022-09-21T11:17:59","modified_gmt":"2022-09-21T11:17:59","slug":"van-morrison-challenging-decision-to-hear-robin-swann-libel-case-without-a-jury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wrigleyclaydon.com\/?p=18986","title":{"rendered":"Van Morrison challenging decision to hear Robin Swann libel case without a jury"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Sir Van Morrison is attempting to challenge a ruling in the Court of Appeal that his defamation action with Health Minister Robin Swann should be heard without a jury.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Swann issued defamation proceedings after Sir\u00a0Van\u00a0chanted that he was \u201cvery dangerous\u201d during a dinner at Belfast\u2019s Europa Hotel in June 2021.<\/p>\n<p>It came after gigs by the Sir Van \u00a0at the Europa Hotel \u00a0were cancelled due to a ban on live music imposed as part of coronavirus restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate action, Sir\u00a0Van\u00a0is suing Mr Swann and the Department of Health over an opinion piece Mr Swann wrote for Rolling Stone magazine.<\/p>\n<p>The article, published after Sir Van released anti-lockdown songs, expressed disappointment at someone he acknowledged as \u201cone of the greatest music legends of the past 50 years&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He described the songs as a \u201csmear\u201d on those involved in the public health response to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The appeal will be listed or a hearing shortly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Suffering a dispute can have serious implications on you and your livelihood. \u00a0Our litigation solicitors will quickly and efficiently put your case together and act on your behalf.
