    It’s okay to talk – Andy’s Man Club

    Andy’s Man Club aims to eliminate the negative stigma surrounding mental health and create an open and supportive environment where men can talk about their feelings and the struggles that they may be facing. They facilitate weekly peer support groups for men over 18 every Monday (expect Bank Holidays) at 7pm all around the country.

    Their name comes from a young man named Andy Roberts, who sadly took his own life in 2006 aged only 23. His family were unaware of the mental struggles that he was facing at the time so were unable to help him. They, therefore, have set out to help prevent other families from going through what they did. In 2006 Andy’s mother, Elaine Roberts, and his brother-in law, Luke Ambler, came up with the idea of ANDYSMANCLUB to give men over 18 the space to talk freely about mental health in a non-judgmental environment, since then they have expanded tremendously and currently cover almost 100 locations nationwide including Manchester, Oldham, and Rochdale.     Wrigley Claydon are extremely supportive of this organisation and: in 2022 Rhona Royle, partner, and Head of our Family team, nominated them as a Charity of the Year for Resolution and we are extremely pleased to say that they won and are Manchester’s Resolution Charity for 2023.

    Our specialist family solicitors, Rhona Royle, and Terri Pickup are both members of Resolution (a community of family justice professionals who work with families and individuals to resolve issues in a constructive way) and treat all parties with respect and without judgement. They understand that when family problems arise it can take a toll on one’s mental health and emotional wellbeing. Therefore, they highly encourage any man who is facing a family issue to reach out for help if needed, this can be from loved ones or a charitable organisation such as ANDYSMANCLUB.

    We had a Christmas Jumper/Silly Santa Day on Thursday 8th December.

    Money raised will be donated to Roundthorn Salvation Army, which will contribute towards the cost of providing Christmas lunch to the vulnerable on Christmas day.

    Congratulations to Emily Lamb who ran 31km for charity, in aid of Refuge

    Associate solicitor, Emily Lamb, helped raise money for Refuge Charity by running 31km in 31 days.

    Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in Chiswick, West London, in 1971. It is now the country’s largest single provider of specialist accommodation and support to women and children escaping domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse. On any given day Refuge supports more than 6,000 women, children and men.

    Refuge provides emergency accommodation through a national network of refuges, alongside many other specialist services, including the freephone 24-Hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline 0808 2000 247. Refuge also offers community-based outreach services, culturally specific services and a team of independent domestic violence advocates (IDVAs), which supports women at the highest risk of serious injury or homicide. Refuge also runs award-winning media and advertising campaigns to raise public awareness of the issue and campaigns and lobbies for better provision for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

    Wrigley Claydon Solicitors have once again partnered with Dr Kershaw’s Hospice to provide the community with access to Will writing services whilst raising vital funds for patient care. This gives those who haven’t yet got a will the opportunity to access the expertise of local solicitors whilst supporting the Hospice.

    Rachel Damianou at Wrigley Claydon Solicitors explains: “Everyone should have a will and making a will under this scheme is a great way to sort out your own affairs whilst benefiting a really worth while local charity.”

     

    With the slogan, ‘Make a Will, Make a Difference,’ Dr Kershaw’s Will Month
    takes place throughout April.

    Hospice Community Engagement Team Leader, Lillie Winterbottom, adds: “A Last Will and Testament is your way of telling everyone what should happen to your money, possessions, property and who should care for you children or pets after you pass away. Throughout April, selected solicitors are offering to help you write your Will, giving their expertise completely free of charge, asking instead that you make a difference towards patient care at our Hospice. All you have to do is look at the list of solicitors who have partnered with us on our website, contact your chosen solicitor to make an appointment for in April, mentioning Dr Kershaw’s Will Month, and then make a donation to the Hospice directly with your solicitor.”

    Making a Will with one of the hospice’s supporting solicitors is free of charge. However, to support patient care there is a suggested minimum donation of £75 for a single Will, £100 for a Mirror Will, and £50 for a Codicil. The solicitors taking part in the scheme are waiving their fees for simple Wills, However if there is a more complex requirement there may also be an additional fee to pay them. Your solicitor will be able to advise of this once an appointment has been made.

    Francis House ‘Chick Knit’ Appeal

    Every year, thousands of little woolly chicks and bunnies flock into Francis House, knitted by crafty supporters from across the world.

    The chicks are filled with a donated chocolate egg each and sold in schools, stores and businesses all across Greater Manchester to raise funds for the hospice.

    The hospice needs over £33m a year to keep doors open, and is heavily dependant on donations to reach that target.

    Louise Partland, PA to Senior Partner, Vijay Srivastava, has been knitting Easter Bunnies, Chicks and Bees for charity. The proceeds will go to the Francis House ‘Chick Knit’ Appeal, where Vijay is a trustee of the charity.

    In 2019 we raised £207.00, and we have not been able to raise any money in the last two years due to Covid.
